OAK-D PoE is the ultimate camera for robotic vision that perceives the world like a human by combining stereo depth camera and high-resolution color camera with an on-device Neural Network inferencing and Computer Vision capabilities.

PoE connection allows cameras to communicate to other computers via networking protocols (TCP, UDP, HTTP, MQTT, etc.). As our PoE models feature device flash memory, you can also run your programs in standalone mode. OAK PoE cameras are housed in an rugged, IP-rated enclosure, which is required for industrial and outdoor use.

We suggest following PoE deployment guide as the first steps after installation.

RVC2 architecture on-board features:
  • 16GB Internal Storage (eMMC)

  • Base line: 75 mm
  • Ideal depth range: 70cm - 12m. See technical specifications.
  • Power consumption: Up to 5.5W. See technical specifications
  • Industrial grade aluminum housing with Front Gorilla Glass
  • 1/4" tripod mount and 45mm M3 mount
  • Dimension: 130x101x31 mm
  • Weight: 361g

Camera specification

Do you need more sensor options or smaller body? See the updated version OAK-D-S2 PoE.

For Wide-FOV you can opt in OAK-D-W PoE.

For active stereo with improved depth perception and better low light performance due to IR illumination you can choose a PRO line cameras available in standard and wide FOV option.

Stereo depth perception

This OAK camera has a baseline of 7.5cm - the distance between the left and the right stereo camera. Minimal and maximal depth perception (MinZ and Max) depends on camera FOV, resolution, and baseline - more information here.

  • Ideal depth range: 70cm - 12m
  • MinZ: ~20cm (400P and extended), ~35cm (400P OR 800P, extended), ~70cm (800P)
Depth accuracy (See 800P, 75mm baseline distance OAKs for details):
  • below 4m: below 2% absolute depth error
  • 4m - 7m: below 4% absolute depth error
  • 7m - 10m: below 6% absolute depth error

Features

Integrated IMU

This OAK camera has an integrated BNO085, a 9-axis IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit). See IMU node for the API details on how to use it.

Power and connectivity

Power-over-Ethernet (PoE)

The base board offers full 802.3af, Class 3 PoE compliance with 1000BASE-T speeds (1Gbps). PoE injector/switch is required to power the device. If need an injector, you can buy it here.

Power consumption

Most of the power is consumed by the RVC2, so the power consumption mostly depends on the workload of the VPU:

  • Base consumption + camera streaming: 2.5W - 3W
  • PoE circuitry: 0.5W
  • AI subsystem consumption: Up to 1W
  • Stereo depth pipeline subsystem: Up to 0.5W
  • Video Encoder subsystem: Up to 0.5W

So the total power consumption can be up to ~5.5W if you are using all the features at 100% at the same time. To reduce the power consumption, you can reduce FPS of the whole pipeline - that way, subsystems won’t be utilized at 100% and will consume less power.

Operating characteristics

Water resistance

This camera is shipped with IP67 rated enclosure. More details can be found here.

Temperature

The ambient operating temperature of RVC2 based devices is between -20°C and 50°C when fully utilizing the VPU. To find out more, see our operating temperature range documentation.

Vibration resistance

Our cameras are tested for vibration tolerance according to the EN 60068-2-6:2008 standard. More information about the testing you can find here.

Getting started

For more information on how to start with POE devices, check our PoE deployment guide.

This OAK PoE camera accepts power input from he 802.3af, Class 3 PoE circuitry. It can also accept power through the on-board USB C connector - which is not exposed through the enclosure, so enclosure needs to be removed.

Booting can be accomplished from either the USB interface or from the eMMC or NOR flash on the OAK-SoM-Pro, and boot selection is configured with the DIP switch bank near the USB connector.

Interfacing with the OAK-SoM-Pro is also possible with PoE Board connector pads J5 and J8, which expose OAK-SoM-Pro auxiliary I/O and BW2099 Quad SPI, respectively. These headers are Amphenol/FCI 20021121-00010T1LF or equivalent.

  • The reset button resets the OAK-SoM-Pro only.
  • The 5V LED indicates 5V power is present on the BW2098POE.
  • The PG LED indicates “power good” from the OAK-SoM-Pro.
  • The “RUN” LED indicates that the OAK-SoM-Pro is not in reset.

Caution should be taken when handling any PoE circuit board. Do not directly touch the circuitry as potentials up to and exceeding 57V may exist. Always use electronics handling best practices.

Package contains:

  • OAK-D PoE camera
  • Ethernet cable, 2m
  • Cable gland
  • Cleaning cloth

Note: PoE injector / switch is required to power the device and it is not included in the packaging. If you need an injector, you can buy it here.
